Grading Obi-Wan: Episode 1&2

Courtesy Disney/Star Wars Pinterest.com

The only Star Wars content I have consumed are the 9 movies plus Rogue One. Another Star Wars series came out for Disney+, Obi-Wan. As of now, I have not watched any spin-off series of the Star Wars franchise until Obi-Wan. And what I think about it. Well, it goes something like this.

Grading

I will be using my own grading system that pretty much I will use to review movies, series, and other stuff in the future in my blog. It is still in conception regarding my grading/review system, but it is easy to understand. I would not be using any numerical or alphabetical system in my review such as the out of ten, out of five, or the similar academic grading of A’s to F’s. Rather I would use a similar “Pass” or “Fail” and will incorporate a “tier-list” system.

In my grading, there will be a “high-grade” - the highest grade/above average grading tier. “Mid-grade”, just as it suggests, an average/middle grade tier. And “Low-grade”, the lowest/below average grade.

I will talk about what are the “high’s”, the “mid’s”, and the “low’s” of the topic in hand. And using the Armchair Association grading/review system for the first time, I will talk about the Episode 1 and 2 of the new Disney+ Star Wars series, Obi-Wan.

Review

High:

Young Princess Leia

We met Princess Leia as a strong character in the Star Wars movies being a leader of the Resistance and her young self still see her as one. Vivien Lyra Blair, the actress that comprise the role of the 10 years old Leia, did great in her role having the spirit of Leia. Having respect and a good heart protecting a droid from her privileged cousin. Not believing Obi-Wan at first and being like a curious kid would with a stranger but an understanding of an adult. The first 2 episodes made this character interesting.

Road to Episode 4: A New Hope

This series took place in between Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV - A New Hope of the Star Wars movies where Obi-Wan defeated Anakin and he thinks Anakin was dead in Episode 3. In Episode 4, a character named Darth Vader was introduced and come to find out it was Anakin Skywalker. I am always interested on what the characters are doing in those gap years and also gives the background and connection of certain characters such as Leia and Obi-Wan’s interactions and Obi-Wan’s knowledge of Darth Vader.

Visuals

Just as in the movies especially the current ones, the background, settings, and visuals are beautiful. From Young Princess Leia’s world that is bright and vibrant, to young Luke’s and Obi-Wan’s desert like Tatooine, and to the dark, cyberpunk-esque setting for underground bounty hunters. Just cannot wait for space fights and more light saber fights.

It is as expected in a Star Wars franchise. With more episodes to come, I wanted to see more of the interactions and the progression of the characters and story in between two movies.
